It is an oft-repeated truism ascribed to Josef Goebbels that the more often one repeats a lie, the nearer it approximates to a truth. But what if you repeat the same lie a million times a day for 1,700 years? Why, it becomes The Truth!
The tragedy of the Christian faith is that it contains a fundamental truth buried beneath an impasto of politically motivated absurdities. Yet it is in those that its adherents mainly choose to believe. This is a theme I explore in my latest Page, ‘Whatever you decide is fine by me’, a philosophical discourse with not much spiky humour, which you will find in your taskbar under ‘1,000 words or less’.
Believe it or not, it is in fact 1,000 words.
